Hog roast machine spit roast machine or combination oven? This can be a confusing area.
Hog Roast
Hog roast machines cook the pigs in a large stainless steel hog roast tray and do not turn whilst cooking. They often cook the pigs more thoroughly than a spit roast and give great crispy crackling. You have to watch the temperature on a hog roast machine because if they get to hot they can burn the sides of the pig . You are better with these machines on a very low heat for a longer period of time they then produce a really super cooked pig. Because they do not have any moving parts they are a lot easier to use and very durable with very little to go wrong. This also makes them cheaper to purchase, lees costly to maintain, easier and quicker to clean. They are ideal for selling to the public where the customer see’s a cooked pig and not a spit roasted pig being cooked. Also because the pig is cooked and served in a tray they will maintain temperature all day long. When cooking the juice is kept in the tray during the roasting process and this can be used to flavour the meat when serving. They are ideal for the hire market as they are very tough and rugged and are very easy to use and have very little to break or go wrong. For the same reasons they are ideal for the novice or part time pig cooker. They are ideal for people wanting to roast a pig and the transport it to another location to serve as the pig is safe in the tray whilst being transported when on the pole there is the worry that it may drop off in transit. They are very very versatile and can cook big pigs, small pigs, pig and potatoes etc. they do not require electric so they can be used at any location, on a beach up a mountain, bottom of a garden etc.
Spit Roast
Spit roast machines are very visual they give you a real focal point for your catering. The sight of a pig roasting slowly and turning is quite mesmerising. People really like the idea of spit roasting and eating spit roasted meat. It gives food a unique taste and texture. Because the roasting pig is continually turning all the juices are kept within the meat and it is continually basting itself. This really does give super succulent juicy meat. You can add herbs and spices to the meat as it is roasting and these will slowly infuse into the hog or lamb etc as it slowly roasts. You can cook lots of different types of meat on the spit roast machine by using a chicken spit; these will cook up to 50 chickens or a combination of joints of meat, suckling pigs etc. Spit Roast machines can be used as a commercial barbecue whilst serving the spit roasted meat.
Why removeable doors?
By making the machine with removeable doors it means the customer can see the whole product and you can serve the customer from behind the pig whilst looking at him not with your back to him whilst cutting off their meat.
Why a glass viewing panel?
A large part of having a spit roast is the sight of a whole pig slowly cooking. If the machine is sealed with no viewing panel the customer can not see the pig cooking.
Will the glass break?
No not during normal use. Does your oven door at home break? No. The glass used is CE marked and heat proofed up to 400 degrees.
Why powder coating?
There is no right or wrong way to manufacture a hog roast machine just alternatives. The benefits of powder coated machines are that they look incredible when new and can continue to look just as good for several years if you look after them. If the paint starts to look a little bit worn simply sand blast them and re-paint them and you have a machine that looks brand new for approximately £100. People will tell you that stainless steel machines are better. Yes they do have some qualities that a powder coated one does not but that does not make them better just different it really is a choice thing. You can buy them in a colour to suit your brand. They are cheaper to buy than stainless steel machines.
Why four wheels and pneumatic tyres?
Hog roast machines with four pneumatic wheels are great for pulling along over gardens, fields, show grounds etc. They are also very easy to get in and out of the back of vans while loaded up with your pig, using a tail lift or ramps, there is no lifting involved just pull along with the handle. They mean that one member of staff can do a hog roast as no lifting or dragging is involved.
Why two wheels and a stand?
The wheel barrow type of machine is very stable when transporting and using but can be slightly harder to move long distances. They are also cheaper than the four wheel versions saving approximately £175 on a new machine. The actual pig cooking ability is not affected simply the manoeuvrability over long distances. When transporting in a trailer or van they will not bounce around the same as a four wheel version and are very easy to secure. They are ideal for the operator who will not be moving the machine around very often. Or as a hog roast as a budget version of a commercial pig oven.
